Taekwondo In South Africa

There are a variety of places in South Africa where you can learn Taekwondo, even though it is not well known. Taekwondo is a term compromising of three words. Taek means either to jump, fly, kick or smash with foot. The term Kwon stands for punch, or destroy with hand/fist. Lastly, Do translates into Art or Way.

Together, it forms Taekwondo, a form of martial art, which balances both the mind and body. Taekwon-do is one of the places in South Africa that teaches this art. It is a registered school with the ITF (International Taekwon-do Federation).

The Grand Master of the school is Choi Jung Hwa, the son of the man who is the head of the International Taekwon-do Federation. At the Taekwon-do school they place emphasis on the versatility of the martial art.

Taekwon-do trains you in the art of co-ordination. It is because of these two factors, namely co-ordination and versatility, that it is easy to pick up another martial art once you have completed Taekwondo.

In fighting, coordination is valuable, as they help the mind and body to work more efficiently. As a whole, Taekwondo is a version of martial



art that allows a person to fight unarmed in a combat style. Fully trained, Taekwondo can be lethal which is why they incorporate the training of the mind as well.

It is a scientific approach, as it utilise the body to its full potential, by intensive training of the body and mind. Another Taekwondo School in South Africa, shares a few secrets of the art. The first being that a person must study the power thoroughly.

Another being that a person must understand the purpose and method of each movement clearly. At all times, both the legs and arms must be bent slightly while movement is in motion.

Overall, Taekwondo is an excellent martial art to learn as it has various aspects to it. Because of this, the art will come into play with other aspects of your life, not only making a person healthier due to the activities, but help him or her handle stress better.
